When you put on the handbrake does it make a noise?
Correct Answer: NO
2. The noise made on a conventional handbrake when pulling it on is caused by the ratchet mechanism that holds the handbrake secure when applied. Over a period of time the constant rubbing of the metal against the ratchet cogs will produce wear and affect the efficiency of the handbrake. To avoid this always pull the handbrake on with the button pressed down and release the button when the brake is secure.
The result of excessive wear is that the handbrake may release unexpectedly when the vehicle is parked. Also cost to replace the worn parts.
